mobile vikings

Simple and therefore (probably) very succesful: the current campaign of Belgian’s youngest mobile operator Mobile Vikings: Choose your favourite cellphone and spread it on Facebook. Consequently you might win the cellphone of your choice.

A viral marketing campaign like another, you might say. Indeed. Except for the fact that you can see how popular the cellphone of your choice is. The smartphone I chose, the LG KP500 Cookie is not that popular with only 5% of the people interested in it. Read the rest of this entry »

werchterTomorrow, I’m attending the famous Rock Werchter Festival with my sister. Very much looking forward to it. With artists like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and 2ManyDJs it will be hard not to enjoy the music. Moreover, the weather will be very sunny, which will only enhance the atmosphere.

  • Last Wednesday: geeking with the girls. Lovely, as usual. Especially lovely, ’cause it was the first time with no males at all. They were banned. Yes, they were. Nivea sponsored this edition and gave us all some great beauty tips ànd a make-over. Nothing for real males in other words. Sorry that the dinner’s heart and soul, Clo, couldn’t make it. She fell ill. Next dinner is on the 10th of March. Topic is ‘mobile’.

I have had quite a winter nap when it comes to this blog. However, here I am again.

To let you know that I’ve been asked by Frank from Frankwatching to cover the Digital News Affairs event in Brussels for his blog. To be honest, I am honoured and thrilled at the same time. It means a lot to me to get the trust of such a blog authority.

I bought a poken from Kevin de Mulder or Clopin. Haven’t been able to get it yet, since Kevin doesn’t really live next door and since I’ve been more ill than healthy in 2009.

However: next week, I have to be in Antwerp -where Kevin lives-, I will have overcome my disease ( yes, I will 😉  ) and therefore, I can finally see my poken and – more importantly -try it out. Do you have a poken already? And what’s it like?

GirlGeekDinner 9 was about music and technology. With among others the cute audiocubes by percussa and a dj set by boskabout. Waw 🙂 .

I finally met the wonderful Tantieris, stumbled upon the funny and witty Tante Annie and had a great time chatting with the other ladies (and boys). My sacoche -or man at my side- for this edition was the inspiring Polle, whose marketing blog I immediately added to my blogroll.

Quite some unforgettable stories at the Girl Geek Dinner as well. Girl Geek x almost drove her car in the canal when coming to the dinner because she blindly followed her gps. And that was only the beginning of her story, which included a stop in a kebab store and a worrying phone call to her husband beacuse she got lost (despite or because of the gps?). Luckily she finally got there 🙂 . Have to admit I kind of recognize that. I have often driven my car in one way streets in the wrong direction just because my gps told me so. Leading to dangerous situations 🙂 .Girl Geek y told about how she almost got locked into a big store because she didn’t think the personnel was in a rush when announcing that the shop was about to close. Made us plan a big party during closing hours. But shhht, that’s still a secret 😉 .

PS. Big thanks to Clo (organisation), Bert Schiettecatte (presentation) and Boskabout (music). And to Sensoa, Fanta, Chupa chups, Guitar Hero, Apple, Jan Leenders, Fa and PlugMedia for the goodie bag. And to Giovani Oosters for the yammie coconuts and CreativeClass for the great location.

If you ask me, the 8th edition of the Belgian Girl Geek Dinner was the best till now.

A vibrant location, lovely people with all kinds of intrests, and great gadgets.

  • As for the gadgets: Imke Dielen brought her Rolly with her and gave a demonstration. On YouTube demos can be seen as well:
  • As for the location: there was a great art project going on in Vooruit: Almost Cinema 08. If you are in Ghent these days, there’s no excuse to skip it. Moreover, it’s for free. I also tried the ‘Think To Me’-box (5 euro). Nobody wanted to tell me in advance what it was all about. I’m not going to tell you either. But it’s really worthwile.

And the event was all for free thanks to:

I’m heading to Ghent today, for the 8th edition of the Belgian Girl Geek Dinner. For the second time, I take a so-called ‘sacoche’ with me. Translated that means ‘handbag’, which refers to the guy a girl can take with her.

For the first edition of the Girl Geek Dinner, Maarten Schenk was my ‘sacoche’, for this edition Hannes Couvreur will accompany me. I met Hannes during my journalism studies a few years ago, we lost contact a bit, and are now back on track because our intrests have somehow developed in a similar way. Web 2.0, creativity, blogging,… Things we both follow and bring into practice.

Theme of the Girl Geek Dinner is Art and technology, with Eric Joris (performance group Crew) and Eva De Groote (Almost Cinema festival) as speakers. Also Jan Leenders, the Belgian artist who made my wonderful Twit2Art, will be there. The next Girl Geek Dinner will be hosted in my hometown Hasselt by the way.
